ABOUT SHUN

Dr. Shun Thomas is a practitioner-scholar in human services, longtime educator, and civic leader seeking election to Plano City Council, Place 7. Her career spans nearly two decades in Plano ISD as a teacher, team leader, special education teacher, academic specialist, and district 504/MTSS coordinator, where she helped students succeed, coached educators, and streamlined services for families. Today, as an Educational Specialist at Children’s Health Plano, Shun bridges hospitals and school districts so children receiving care return to class with the right supports under the MTSS framework. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Services, plus certifications in restorative practices and youth mental health first aid.

Beyond work, Shun has held leadership roles with the Art Centre of Plano and in the Junior League of Collin County. Her service includes the City of Plano Community Relations Commission and the Texas Health Plano Philanthropic Cabinet. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Honored among Plano’s “50 Leading Women” and Collin County’s Women “40 Over 40,” Shun is known for collaboration, integrity, and results.

On council, she will support first responders and community policing; protect parks; grow tourism; balance business and residential needs to keep taxes low; strengthen reliable transportation options; and deliver comprehensive wrap-around services for Plano residents in need of support.

​

She and her husband James “Dudie” Thomas III are empty nesters who enjoy spending their time serving others in the Plano community and surrounding areas.
